Galway-Goodwood Yankee: That’s the Wonder…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Wonder Laish, (1845 Galway), 1pt win, 11/2:

This top handicap hurdle has attracted a deep field.  English raider Hunter’s Call has a chance, and Buildmeupbuttercup would be a certainty if there was a 14f handicap.  The key race though could be the recent Tipperary hurdle won easily by Aramon.  He could follow up here, but although he gave Wonder Laish 11lbs there and an easy beating, the Charles Byrne trained Wonder Laish ran with suspicious restraint that day as though he had another day firmly in mind, this day in fact.  The ultimate target trainer, he should be trusted to have the engine perfectly tuned for today.

Caspian Queen, (1310 Goodwood), 5/2:  Topweight Electric Ladyland is in flying form, but when she won here Caspian Queen was a very unlucky short head second.  Richard Hughes’ filly is 6lbs better off and has Ryan Moore on board, which together should be enough for a clear form reversal.

Deirdre, (1515 Goodwood), 11/2:  Japanese mare was a smooth winner of this race last year.  That came after after a below par reappearance at Ascot, her reappearance was in the Eclipse this time at Sandown, and although not setting the world on fire it was still fair enough.  If she can improve for Goodwood this year like she did last then she has to be right in the mix.  Some useful younger opponents to beat, but this world traveller has a badge of quality at her best and is worth the risk.

Teodolina, (1620 Goodwood), 6/4:  Trainer Hannon likes to target the maidens at this meeting and he will have had this one chalked in for Teodolina after her hugely encouraging Newmarket debut third.  Not a lot went right there but she ran on with great promise.  The extra furlong should suit, and top jock Ryan Moore is booked to steer her home.
