Tuesday Yankee: Young Rascal can be repeat offender…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Ventura Rascal, (1530 Beverley), 1pt win, 7/4:

We always like the chance to double down on a form line, and we get the chance to do that here as Ventura Rascal seeks to follow up a recent Catterick success over Bumbledom (see below).  He was very strong at the finish there, and this stiffer track promises to suit.  Only 4lb higher here but looked worth more than that at Catterick and should follow up.

Bumbledom, (1515 Catterick), 9/2:  if our nap Ventura Rascal is going to win, then we get the chance to employ the old double-down by backing his recent Catterick victim, Bumbledom to go one better at that track.  Unlike Ventura, Bumbledom’s best work that day came before the finish and he looked to just run out of steam in the final strides.  The step back to 6f looks a good call, especially as he had looked to have the better of today’s rival Kaafy after 6f of his previous 7f race here only again to fade close home.  Expect an aggressive ride and he will be hard to catch.

Bottom Bay, (1600 Catterick), 2/1:  another progressive 3yo looking to follow up a recent first handicap success.  We were sweet on the improving Le Chiffre that day but he couldn’t handle this fella in the closing stages.  We think that’s good form and a 5lb hike looks unlikely to stop a repeat.

Rum Runner, (1615 Catterick), 15/2:  hot favourite Tranchee has been going well on the all weather as his pedigree would suggest, he is well weighted if as effective on turf but worth opposing at these odds.  Rum Runner was a useful handicapper for Richard Hannon, rated around the low nineties before being sold to his new yard at the end of last year. He has shown nothing at all in four runs that has seen his rating slip to 78, but with this yard it is often a case of wait for the money. Here he is a single figure price having been any odds you like up til now, the money’s coming and if he continues to shorten then take the hint.
