The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Clearance, (1450 Ripon), 1pt win, 4/1:
Favourite Repititio is a horse we know well, he’s on a winnable mark but this course may not suit this one paced grinder. Instead Clearance looks perfect for the course having travelled at Musselburgh like a horse in a different class. He quickened well there to overcome trouble, and although up 8lbs he looks like a horse capable of much better.
Gunmetal (1315 Ripon), 5/1: a good quality handicap in which Citron Major has obvious claims as does the Easterby trained pair, but Gunmetal runs well here and could snap back to form. He is 3lbs higher here than his future rating, which is hardly good news, but although well beaten at the Curragh and York, those tracks don’t suit as much as this, and two curious hold up rides wouldn’t have helped. May be allowed to bowl along today and would be hard to catch if back to his best.
Secretfact (1510 Bath), 11/2: of his 6 lifetime turf wins, 5 have come here. The last of those came off 74 last September and now he runs off just 68. Showed some promise at Chepstow last time and can close the length he finished there behind today’s favourite Zulu Zander now that he is back to his beloved Bath.
Shanroe, (1630 Leopardstown), 3/1: was a winner of three bumpers, and although not quite backing that up over hurdles, made an impressive flat debut at Limerick. Got up to win there and those beaten have been winning off higher marks since. This 82 looks generous, and although high in the physical weights here he could still have plenty in hand.
