The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Ginger Jam, (1540 Beverley), 1pt win, 6/1:
He was a revelation this time last year when landing four races on the bounce over this course and distance. Is only 3lbs higher than for the last of those wins, and although disappointing in his last runs at Newmarket and Newcastle, he was a good 2nd off a 2lb higher mark at Doncaster before that. Now back on his favourite track and with a good draw in stall 4 he looks ready to go in again.
Ice Cold In Alex, (1300 Gowran), 5/1: waiting for this fella to win is starting to get a little like John Mills’ dreams of the cold beer in Alexandria in the film inspiring the horse’s name. But the barman might be ready to pour as he ran a cracker last time out and a fast run 7f here could be just what he needs. Cheers.
Aesop, (1400 Gowran), 11/2: improved rapidly for his flying local stable when winning at Leopardstown. Got hiked up a massive 12lbs for that although the form of the runner up suggests even more may have been appropriate. Was only able to plug on for 4th in the Ulster Derby at Down Royal last time, but that may have been a very good race, this may be easier and the cheek pieces may help him find the added improvement needed.
Byron’s Choice, (1410 Beverley), 6/1: got a little high in the weights after a summer hat-trick in 2018. Has finally dropped back to a winning mark and showed that when pipped here by an in form opponent two runs ago. Ignore a defeat at very different Thirsk last time, and back here, where he was a good 2nd off a 6lb higher mark last summer, he can get back in front under course specialist Paul Mulrennan.
