Tempting to pick our good friends’ 5-time winner Revolver as he aims for 6 in a row at Pontefract, but at odds on, up in the weights, and with a few dangerous rivals he’ll carry our best wishes and not our cash on this occasion. Instead we’ll aim for more ambitious returns….

NAP OF THE DAY: Berkshire Savvy, (1630 Chester), 1pt win, 11/2:
Won for us recently at Windsor and ran really well for a long way at Goodwood in a stronger race last time when travelling like a winner before getting into a bit of trouble. Trouble could be an issue here drawn out in the car park in stall 12, but he can be ridden near the pace or out the back, either way it is worth trusting the experienced David Probert to slot him into a good position and if he can run to that Goodwood effort then he should go close here at a nice price.
Singe Anglais, (1315 Pontefract), 10/1: an open looking race but there could be value in the 3yo gelding. He picked up three wins as a 2yo including here and his two 7f efforts this season have been just about ok. Now he gets a nice drop in the weights and his rider’s useful 5lb claim. The stiff 6f looks a good move and the yard is in some form. He has a wide draw but needs to be dropped in anyway so can slingshot off the last bend for a surprise win.
Many A Star, (1420 Pontefract), 13/2: made a fine seasonal debut when overcoming trouble to win costly at Doncaster. Only got a 4lb rise for that but the form is good and he looked value for more. Nicely drawn and with a tactical wizard on top, he could be progressive for a yard that unearths one or two each year that run up a sequence.
Lincoln Park, (1510 Chester), 3/1: at the most draw biased track in racing and the solid three contenders with course form get boxes 1,2 & 3. A steal for tricast backers, big of the three it’s Lincoln Park who looks closest to his best form and the most likely to get his head in front.
