The Champions League has been reconfigured to take account of this summer’s different circumstances, which means tonight’s quarter final between Manchester City and Lyon is a one-off clash, held in neutral territory in Lisbon.
City are one of the favourites for this season’s tournament, and are expected to win tonight. They have been outstanding in Europe this season and finished second in the Premier League, only behind an outstanding Liverpool team.
Lyon finished 7th in Ligue 1 after the decision to end the league early, but that doesn’t mean we should rule them out completely.
The French side has clearly been putting most of its efforts into their Champions League run, a competition they have never won. And they were good enough to dispatch Juventus over two legs.
The pressure is all on City. Lyon will sit back and try and exploit a fragile City defence on the break – a tactic which worked for teams as weak as Norwich!
City should win, but a price of 12/1 on Lyon seems to good to leave alone.
Recommendation: Lyon to win, 1 pt, at 12/1, widely available
