The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Hyperfocus, (1515 Ripon), 1pt win, 14/1:
Our luck in this season’s big sprints would suggest it’s folly to oppose our Stewards Cup photo loser Kimifive (who was beaten there by our deserted Wokingham photo loser Summerghand), but he has an awkward middle draw and we’re going to risk it. We’re keen on the low draw potential and Hyperfocus already has a rich history of pace setting up that far side. He’ll want all and more of the forecast showers as the softer the better, but he looks much the best of those low and he could be lethal if allowed an unhurried front-run.
Blessed To Empress, (1330 Ripon), 8/1: a feature of Ripon sprint racing this year has been the competitiveness of low drawn runners tacking over to the far rail, so this race immediately gets interesting given a big field gives the low draws easier access to that rail. Front runners in stalls 2 and 3 should ensure a great gallop on that side too. One of those might make all, but Blessed To Empress will come from stall 1 and could be a surprise package dropping back to 6f under apprentice wonder kid Cieren Fallon.
Risk Taker, (1350 Newbury), 15/4: from a stable capable of getting a good class improving handicapper and he certainly looked the part when romping home at Haydock. He has been lumped up 9lbs, but the winning exploits of those left toiling in his wake suggests that may not be enough to stop him.
Danyah, (1425 Newbury), 7/2: bolted up on his seasonal reappearance and although now higher in the weights and up in class, he could hardly come from a hotter stable who are running a 50% strike rate of late. Jockey Jim Crowley continues to ride with confidence and should land another win.
