NAP OF THE DAY: Keepup Kevin, (1530 Beverley), 1pt win, 5/1:
We have an old favourite here in course specialist Zihaam, but this trip looks sharp enough and the rating now high enough to leave him vulnerable. Instead this looks ideal for Pam Sly’s Keepup Kevin. He won twice here last year off 68 and 72, and has toiled away since off higher marks. But his 6th and 5th in his last two runs here both signalled better might be around the corner and yet has allowed the rating to drop back to 72. This race won’t take much winning and he looks a good bet to return to winning ways.
Princess Power, (1400 Beverley), 11/4: has course form of first and second, and in the frame in her last two runs at Ascot and Sandown. In fact her last 6 runs have all been at top notch grade 1 courses, and this step back to Beverley looks to have set up a winning opportunity. Stall 6 is a reasonable draw, and the 5lb claim of her jockey brings her down to net mark of 75 having won off 82 this time last year.
Diamond Haze, (1430 Beverley), 11/4: was given a quiet first two runs to prep a nursey campaign and immediately struck gold when staying on well to win at Thirsk. Was better the further they went there and this stiffer track should suit well. Carries a 6lb penalty but should handle that with ease from his favourable draw.
Lismore, (1705 Beverley), 2/1: trainer Sir Mark Prescott has that magic touch with 3yo handicappers who seem to improve massively for staying trips, regardless of their breeding. This filly should really be best at a mile, but she showed little until hitting marathon trips when an easy Chepstow win was followed by an easy Bath win. This is undoubtedly a much tougher ask and she has gone up again in the weights but it takes a very brave man to oppose one of these Prescott improvers, and we have been called many things, but brave ain’t one of them. So we’ll hop on the bandwagon in the belief that it won’t be stopping quite yet.
