NAP OF THE DAY: Wadacre Galoubet, (1635 Musselburgh), 1pt win, 12/1:
Tactics can be everything for some horses and never more so than for front runners. The form of this fella’s penultimate run when making all at Beverley is excellent, but last week he could only manage 8th of 10 there when fighting a disputed lead throughout. There doesn’t appear to be a pace-setting threat here as long as favourite Sea Art drops in, and if he does get his own way then we could see a reversion to that previous winning form at a big price.
Reely Bonnie, (1330 Musselburgh), 3/1: a few in form in this race and we have been fans of Grace and Virtue, but she may find stall 10 tricky on this quickly turning 7f. Reely Bonnie may only be 4 stalls nearer the rail in 6, but that is a good spot and she could be anything having left her maiden form well behind with a debut handicap win at Ayr. That was a clear win over 6f with her lead stretching all the time. A 6lb rise looks very manageable and this sharp 7f could be ideal.
Bibbidibobbidiboo, (1400 Musselburgh), 3/1: it’s a wrench not to back old blog regular Donnelly’s Rainbow at his ideal course and distance but the threat of summer rains is enough to deter interest. But Joe Fanning’s mount is equally at home here with course form of 4122, handles any ground having been second on soft last time, and has a veteran jockey who will know exactly how to benefit from his nice draw.
Quanah, (1500 Musselburgh), 6/1: lots with chances here but with rain in the ground it may accentuate the already significant high draw bias on the 5f course. That could all favour Quanah from the highest stall against the rail. Handles soft ground and is capable of making all if that is the tactic required. Much as we love Eeh Bah Gum he surely needs it quicker so it’s the Bailey trained horse for us.
