The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: So Suave, (1540 Curragh), 1pt win, 9/1:
Lots to like for an old favourite in Njord, but he has climbed to a big weight and will need a lifetime best. So Suave also needs a lifetime best but is only a 3yo and looked in great shape last time when this extra furlong looked like it would be ideal. Trainer Johnny Murtagh continues to have his best season and can add another big handicap here.
Pettochside, (1530 Goodwood), 11/4: a pensioner now at 11 years old but can still shift as he showed in a recent Salisbury win. Loves this track where his form on good or faster is 823367005, but his form on softer ground is 11122011731. Nicely drawn and in a very winnable race with the ground in his favourite and an excellent jockey booking.
Many A Star, (1650 Newmarket), 10/1: it may well turn out to be foolish opposing the Godolphin team’s hot favourite here in Man Of Promise who has good form and good breeding and although 92 is a high starting point may prove way ahead of that – but oppose him we will. We were on Many A Star at Pontefract last time when a staying on third. That form is simply not good enough, but this huge rangy type looked all at sea around the sharp Ponty turns and we vowed to get on as soon as he was on a straight galloping track. He is, so he’s worth a punt, even if he has to beat Pegasus.
Knowing, (1935 Newmarket), 11/4: hasn’t had the best of luck in recent runs and somehow managed to get boxed in here last time in an eight runner race. Looked that day as though he had taken a liking to this track and that he could have contested in what was a strong event. Goes off the same mark here and must have a fine chance of compensation.
