Saturday Yankee: Mudlark can sluice to max bet win…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Alemaratalyoum, (1420 Goodwood), 3pts win, 11/2:

A regular in 7f handicaps and enjoys this course.  Has been in awful form for his last two runs but had shown at Epsom that he still has the spark.  The key to this horse/hippo is the mud, the muddier the better.  His form on soft or heavy is 1121413 including a sauntering success here on heavy last autumn off a mark of 90.  He’s off 91 here, and has been well backed for his gambling hard every time it rides soft.  This time it’s heavy, that’s perfect and the money is down, time to empty the coffers !!

Rake’s Progress, (1610 Goodwood), 9/1:  been around the block for a few years now and belated tries this longer trip.  With the ground riding heavy on one hand that saps stamina, on the other hand (hoof), the race pace will probably be very slow and a a horse with 10f speed could be useful late on.  More than anything, this fella’s proven mud form swings the day at these odds.

Badenscoth, (1645 Goodwood), 6/1:  Junkanoo looks the obvious one to follow up his big win here last time.  Whilst he is handicapped to do so, and he acts ok soft, this heavy ground may bring a few others into this.  Badenscoth in particular is a proven mudlark, back down to a winning mark, this ground is heaven for him and he stayed on really nicely at Newbury recently suggesting he is ready to strike.

Eastern Star, (1715 Goodwood), 9/1:  the concluding sprint and by now it should be a pretty testing surface.  Eastern Star ran almost exclusively on the all weather in Ireland but her turf runs since moving to England this season have been very good.  Has the potentially prime rails draw, and although never meeting soft ground, her breeding suggest it could be perfect.
