Wednesday Yankee: Fall for the Con…

Great to see the run of 2nds, 3rds and 4ths finally convert into a few wins on yesterday’s daily yankee with a welcome 50/1 resultant return. Let’s see if we can keep September rolling…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Cappananty Con, (1400 Bath), 1pt win, 5/1:

Consistent sprinter with not too much to hide from the handicapper.  But has been in fine form of late and crucially looks like he could have this run to suit.  Handles all ground but needs a frantic gallop and thankfully he is drawn next to King Crimson, one of the fastest horse over the first 3f and likely to make this a blitz.  Cappa can track him and forge on when the leader flags.

Mr Chua, (1510 Lingfield), 13/2:   Very lightly raced having started as a hurdler but has been gradually improving concluding with a win at Chester last time when wearing down his rivals late on.  That bodes well for this longer trip and this turning track should hold no fears.  Only up 3lbs for that narrow win, and has missed a few recent engagements suggesting connections don’t want to waste a winning mark and are waiting for the ideal opportunity.

Sri Sene Power, (1600 Bath), 5/2:  some useful fillies here including blog regular Colony Queen who should go well.  But most have them have shown plenty to the handicapper, not so Sri Sene Power.  She makes her handicap debut here and the form of her recent maiden win suggests she will improve for the step up in trip, and that an initial rating of 74 may be a serious underestimate.

Elsie Violet, (1745 Bath), 6/1:  an open race but this filly really scored in style at Yarmouth last week, a display which suggests this 5lb penalty won’t stop her.  That was her first real meaningful form and with a low grade filly it is as likely to be a fluke as much as a sudden funding of form.  That said, if it is the latter then she should follow up here.

    • That’s right Lee, unfortunately we get that a lot at this time of year with ground changes etc. We’re sticking with the remaining three and hope it’s a lucky omen like yesterday – or you could sub in Holdenhurst from the same race if you want to have a fully active Yankee…good luck !!
