The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Chil Chil, (1540 Salisbury), 1pt win, 2/1
One of our favourites having been on her both runs this season. Her win at Ascot last time was very impressive and it will be disappointing if she doesn’t land this on the way towards better things, the Ayr Gold Cup being potentially imminent.
Mahomes, (1410 Salisbury), 9/4: as big fans of the Kansas City Chiefs, any horse named after boy wonder quarterback Patrick Mahomes is going to catch our eye. Then add in the equine detail – he cost a million as a yearling, indicative of his extremely good breeding, he has a Derby entry, and he is at the training Ritz – ie John Gosden’s yard. Oisin Murphy steers, and whilst Johnny G is rarely that hard on his future middle distance types, they usually have enough quality to win despite the inexperience, and starting him straight in a novice rather than an easier maiden suggests he has been showing something at home.
Noon Star, (1440 Salisbury), 7/2: not often we’d pick one unraced horse in a yankee let alone two, but it is rare to find two such exciting types on one card. This filly is in a cracking looking maiden the form of which is sure to be worth following. Again though her breeding just leaps off the page being by star stallion Gallileo and out of multiple Group 1 winning mare Midday. William Buick rides and she need only be within shouting distance of her illustrious parents to have a big chance here even on debut.
Time Scale (1510 Salisbury), 11/4: a good little race in which Time Scale is by far the best on the form we have seen so far. Unlucky on debut, she won easily the next twice and was a close fourth in a bunch finish for a Group 2 at Newmarket last time. Having proven herself in that class she now steps back to Group 3 to take on rivals stepping up from lower grades. She can put them in their place.
