Friday Yankee: Clever Dick…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Dick Datchery, (1720 Ascot), 1pt win, 16/1:
Those at the top of the market are bringing Chepstow form with them.  Having grown up in that neck of the woods and arrived in the big city in double denim a la Shakin Stevens, I can testify that form doesn’t always translate to the big stage.  Instead we’d rather trust the return of Ascot straight course specialist Jamie Spencer to the saddle, and in Dick Datchery he has an able mount who can leave his soft ground flop last time well behind him back on a better surface.

Repetitio, (1410 Haydock), 5/1:  flopped at Cheltenham when we went in big on him, but has been in fine form on the flat when the emphasis is on stamina.  Has to turn over Lightly Squeeze who would be 9lb worse off in a hurdle race, but Repetitio has guaranteed peak fitness and looks sure to enjoy the conditions and that may be enough to win the day.

Bielsa, (1520 Haydock), 2/1: a short favourite here for Leeds fans in the shape of Bielsa.  A few pounds lower than when favourite at Royal Ascot he must have a decent chance now back in class and after having had a wind op.  Old blog regular Hyperfocus is the danger but Bielsa should be a class apart.

Venturous, (1635 Thirsk), 7/1:  an interesting little sprint handicap but with the weather set fair this could be a good opportunity for the admitted inconsistent Venturous.  He may have only been 6th if 8 here last time but he looked likely to do a whole lot better until meeting trouble.  Definitely not easy to win with but capable of top form when he’s in the mood.
