Friday Yankee: Get some Chief belief…

A big day for some friends of ours with their horse Revolver who steps up from 6 consecutive handicap wins to take on the Group 2 Doncaster Cup. He has a good sporting chance, but looks a little tight at the odds, and we would rather wish him well than lumber him with the 5lb penalty that is being our selection !!

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY: Chiefofchiefs, (1410 Doncaster), 2pts win, 9/1:

This race looks tailor-made for this fella.  Loves to come from off the pace in big handicaps and did so to win the Silver Wokingham off a mark of 95. Ran a cracker to be 4th last time off this new mark and should enjoy this course and distance provided there is plenty of pace.  Well there are several blazeaway front runners here and they could set this up a treat for Buick to steer the Chief to a last gasp win.

Sleeping Lion, (1340 Doncaster), 5/1:  his finest moment came in winning this same race last year off a mark of 91.  Has run with credit in recent defeats at Ascot and Newcastle and returns to defend of just 94.  This looks weaker than normal and although we like favourite Alfaatik he is not a horse we implicitly trust and he looks a bit short second time back from a lay-off.

Sacred, (1440 York), 15/8:  flying 2yo filly who was unlucky to run into a top-notched at Royal Ascot.  May have found the 6f trio an issue at York last time when looking like a winner H til fading late on.  Jockey Tom Marquand can ride her for pure speed back at 5f today and she should prove too hot to handle for the colts.

Sir Maximilian, (1600, Chester), 3/1: this course always rewards experience, and they don’t come much more long in the tooth than this 11yo veteran. Despite the years he remains very useful over this course and distance. He won here off 91 this time last year and showed that he still has it when a pretty unlucky 4th here last time. Has to reverse form with the 2nd and 3rd that day, but should have a good chance of doing so with a bit more luck, and his mark of 89 looks workable.
