NAP OF THE DAY: Search For A Song, (1640 Curragh), 1pt win, 5/1:
She was a surprise winner of this race last year but there was no fluke about the style of her win. Was expected to be a star stayed this year, but hasn’t been able to show that year with two 10f defeats sandwiching a pulled up blip. Her last run behind the world class Magical over 10f promised much, and now she is back to her favourite trip it’s hard to see why she isn’t the favourite here.
Mr Lupton, (1400 Curragh), 9/1: the home team is headed by the useful Romantic Proposal, but a strong English challenge could prevail as their top sprinters often do well in these Irish handicaps. Treacherous is bang in form, but Mr Lupton is the one with some superb course form and who showed with 3rd last time in the competitive Great St Wilfred that he is ready to win again.
Magic Wand, (1435 Curragh), 5/2: probably has the best peak form on offer here, but she has to be forgiven for a below pr effort at Goodwood last time on which form she has something to find with One Voice. Not every horse enjoys the Sussex track, and on her form here in the past this Group 2 event should be well within her grasp.
Glass Slippers, (1510 Curragh), 4/1: improved out of all recognition as last season wore on culminating in big race wins in France including the Group 1 L’Abbaye. Has started slowly again this year, but Goodwood was better than Ascot, and if she can improve again now that September has arrived then she has the class to be the better of these as she is the one with the proven Group 1 class.
