The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Zap, (1420 Redcar), 1pt win, 9/2:
He has been running consistently well this season including at top tracks like Newmarket and Sandown. Hasn’t won a race in 2 years, but his rating keeps slipping lower and this looks his most winnable opportunity for a long time with a big step down in class.
Spiorad, (1450 Redcar), 4/1: Had won both his previous handicap runs on this track before bombing out here last time. That was his third failure on soft ground this season with his one good run coming on fast ground at York. This track and faster ground should see a return to his best.
Lady Nectar, (1520 Redcar), 11/2: burst into form with two wins on quick ground including an impressive romp at Thirsk. Was held on soft at Catterick shortly afterwards and is now 3lbs higher, but the style of her previous wins suggests that back on a quicker surface she may be able to resume the sharply upward form trajectory.
Jan de Heem, (1650 Redcar), 20/1: plenty of form horses in here, but we fancy a punt on a veteran outsider. Jan de Heem loves a staying trip around Redcar on quick ground. He may be a bit untrustworthy in his elder years, but there were hints of a return to form at Ripon last time, and he gets his ideal conditions for the first time this year. Could spring a surprise.
