Cycling TdF Stage 20: Jumbo, Dom to boss TT

And so the 2020 Tour reaches the penultimate stage and indeed the last stage where there will be any shake up on the GC prior to tomorrows procession in Paris.

Primoz Roglic enjoys a commanding lead over Tadej Pogocar in the standings with just under a minute while below the jostling for the final podium position looks set to ensure fireworks.

The course itself is a departure from the usual TT layout with 6km of a rise after 30km which averages 8%. After three testing weeks this will eliminate many powerhouse TT specialists and it leaves us with the prospect of the GC men deciding the outcome.

Champion in waiting Primoz Roglic is 6/4 to take the stage and he will be more suited to the first 30km than Pogocar and that is enough to side with him versus his chief rival.

Others we looked at were Pelle Bilbao who has shown superb legs in the last week and has excellent form historically in TT’s. 100/1 is extremely tempting for the Bahrain rider.

However we are going to side with a team mate of Roglic for stage glory. Not Wout Van Aert who will have one eye at the upcoming World Championships but team vice captain Tom Domoulin

The powerhouse Dutchman has ably assisted in bringing Roglic to the line in Paris and today he gets a chance for individual glory. Spotted out on his TT bike on Monday he is sure to be eyeing stage victory with his big engine capable of turning the big gears over a prolonged period.
The finish holds no fears either having shown his ability to climb when taking Grand Tour glory at the Giro D’Italia in 2017. Jumbo have swathed away all challenges throughout the tour and it will be just reward for Domoulin to claim a win and seal their dominance.

Recommendation:

Tom Domoulin to win Stage 20 of TdF, 1pt win, 7/2
