US Open: Go straight with English …

Well, that didn’t go well! Our selections for the US Open have all gone home, swearing that Winged Foot was a four letter word. It’s time to reload and play three off the tee!

Leading the betting are the talented trio of Patrick Reed, Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau. However, as conditions get more extreme we would prefer to take a longer price, mindful that Geoff Ogilvy was on precisely nobody’s radar when he won the last time the US Open was held here.

Harris English has been playing very well this year, finishing 12th in the FedEx Cup standings, and is suited by the need for straight, consistent hitting. He lies just two shots off the lead, in tied third, but is quoted at 14/1, around three times the price of the favourites.

Our second selection is Bubba Watson. The two-times major winner has starts to show a bit of form, and lies just five shots off the lead. He can shape the ball both ways and thus should be able to cope the doglegs off the tee and the sloping greens. He just seems a very big price to us, at 66/1,

Recommendations:

English to win, 1 or, at 14/1, widely available

Watson 0.5 pts each way at 66/1, 1/4 the odds for the first four places, widely available
