One leg of our opening treble of the NFL season let us down last week, so we’re slightly changing this up this week.
We were very impressed with how the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, started the season, comfortably beating the Houston Texans. We think they are going to have another strong season, and expect them to dismiss the Los Angeles Chargers with ease tonight.
We thought rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire had a great first game, he is superb at finding holes to run through – but not at the goal-line where his comparative lack of size meant less success. The three short yardage touchdowns the Chiefs engineered last Thursday ended up as throws to Travis Kelce, Sammy Watkins and Tyreek Hill.
They need a short yardage punch solution – they could and probably will persevere with CE-H, but it was noticeable that on a key 4th and 1 against the Texans, with the game in the balance, they went to the full back Anthony Sherman. He has been in the league 9 years and gets about 10 touches a season. He has 4 lifetime TDs, but the Chiefs could use him more for those short plays as they just don’t have that kind of running back this year.
Sherman is top priced 22/1 for an anytime TD, and we’ll take a punt!
