Saturday Yankee: Let’s Rock !!

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Bell Rock, (1535 Newmarket), 2pts win, 12/1:

Always a cracking cavalry charge and plenty to like about old rivals Sir Busker and Montatham as well as York winner Sinjaari, with the last named having a great chance at the weights.  All three are drawn low though, and whilst it is hard to be dogmatic, there is often fresh ground on the stands side and that could point to the high numbers.  Favourite Tempus has a nice stall but looks short enough now, instead we really like an old favourite in Bell Rock.  He also has a high draw and was very impressive over this course on seasonal debut.  He is only 5lbs higher, and has run with credit in the Hunt Cup and at Goodwood.  With his obvious likening for this track, and with the always excellent Oisin Murphy on board he looks a great bet.

Danyah, (1405 Haydock), 3/1:  with respect to the useful Key Victory and course and soft ground lover Alternative Fact, this should be the chance for Danyah to shine.  He looked back to his best last time at Ripon when despite sweating up badly he looked sure to win but for meeting severe trouble in running.  Fortunately that leaves him on a mark of 93, and that looks a winning pitch especially as there could still be improvement to mine in this lightly raced 3yo.

Dark Shot, (1430 Haydock), 7/1:  a good sprint in which drying Haydock ground may undo the market leaders both of whom like it soft. Dark Shot was very good in his prime and has found some of that old form in recent weeks. He is still on a good mark under a 4lb penalty for a win a few days ago and can handle this surface if it dries out. He could be value.

Lucky Vega, (1500 Newmarket), 3/1:  some very promising types at the head of the market in Method and Minzaal, but for all of their promise it is hard to see why they are priced shorter than a proven Group 1 winner.  Lucky Vega landed his Group 1 at the Curragh by an ever widening 3.5 lengths.  We can forgive his 5th last time back there when he got totally boxed in.  This track with the stiff finish should suit ideally and he really should be. Short priced favourite for this.  No need to argue about that, just take the chance to cash in.
