The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Captain Jameson, (1400 Pontefract), 1pt win, 6/1:
Drops hugely in class to give weight away to lesser rivals in his first dip into Class 5 racing since his maiden win. Ran well at Ayr last time and his best form has tended to come on the softer ground. Can make his class tell.
HMS President, (1300 Pontefract), 9/4: has shown consistent form to reach the minor placings in a series of good handicaps this season. Those efforts have been over 10f and now tries stepping back to a mile. This could go one of two ways, either getting just reward for efforts, or a jaded end of season disappointment. If it’s the former, he should win and that looks a chance worth taking.
Nordano, (1330 Pontefract), 5/2: favourite Call My Bluff is in great form but this marathon test in soft ground will take some getting. Nordano has been off the track for a while, but was last seen running away with a good hurdle race at Ascot at the end of a progressive hurdle campaign. Is absolutely thrown in on that form, and although hurdles to flat is a dangerous conversion, he is lightly raced enough in this discipline to think that improvement could map across.
Poetic Force, (1645 Wolverhampton), 9/1: oddly hasn’t run at this track in two years despite form figures here of 11311. In good form, albeit pretty much exclusively at a mile. The step back to 7f is a challenge, but there are loads of pace candidates and that can set this up for a late closer, and jockey Buick looks just the man for the job.
