NAP OF THE DAY: Hawk In The Sky, (1650 Nottingham), 1pt win, 3/1:
We are fans of Beverley 1-2 Not On Your Nellie and Burtonwood, but neither have even placed when meeting soft ground before. Just behind them in third last time, Hawk In The Sky was showing his first form of the season in newly sported blinkers for his flying stable. He made all to win on heavy ground this time last year and that tactic on this surface could be ideal against a opposition who may be uncomfortable on the surface.
Miranda, (1520 Bath), 25/1: obviously at these odds she is a bit of a stab in the dark. On official ratings she has a stone to find hence the price. But that is on old French form, since which time she has matured into a good quality hurdler for trainer Nicholls. His stable are in their usual flying early season form over jumps, and whilst this may be a warm up reappearance for a forthcoming hurdling campaign, it is also a very valuable prize and it’s probably not such a long shot that she could be a lot better after a season with the West Country maestro than her back form would suggest.
Dakota Gold, (1545 Nottingham), 9/4: dominated a decent field at York on the weekend. We were on him then and are not put off by his double penalty here. Loves this ground, has won here in the past and is obviously back to his blistering best. Some good opponents here, but he should have them all in trouble by halfway.
Scaramanga, (1735 Bath), 9/4: his aim hasn’t been as deadly as his movie namesake this season, but the 4-3-2 trend looks likely to conclude with a 1 today. In truth he has been running well in all those events but he has been swimming in deep waters. There are some promising types in this event but it is still a much easier test and he should come through with ease under the guidance of Megan Nicholls.
