The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Rovaniemi, (1830 Chelmsford), 1pt win, 6/1:
Lightly raced and ran well on his previous all weather appearance. There was a lot to like about his 5th in a high quality handicap at York last time, and he comes here nicely drawn in a race with plenty of early pacesetters and under the guidance of the king of the waiting ride in Jamie Spencer. Expect another masterclass from the saddle.
For Richard, (1725 Lingfield), 9/2: produced a win from zero form at Bath at the start of September but has been a good second there again since. Took to the all weather at Chelmsford last time and may have got arcing too early there before being overhauled late on. Hollie Doyle takes over and is rarely caught wanting tactically and can deliver a better timed effort here for the win.
Curtis, (1945 Southwell ), 7/1: his lifetime best was a short head defeat at this track. He has only had 5 runs and was disappointing last time over a much longer distance. Trainer Morrison loves to place his handicappers to good effect at this track, and must surely think this fella is capable of running up a sequence starting from a lowly mark of 62.
Gold Zabeel, (2015 Southwell), 7/2: hot favourite John Clare may be hard to beat but t s can be a tricky track for an inexperienced jockey. Gold Zabeel is a typically powerful galloping Johnston horse and it’s no surprise to see him giving this surface a go having suffered free wheeling but ultimately one paced defeats in his last runs. That prominent ru style works well here where the emphasis is very much on keeping going rather than quickening and it could suit him well.
