The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Top Decision, (1607 Kempton), 1pt win, 4/1:
He wasn’t setting the world on fire as a novice until his last run, when encountering good ground for the first time, and a smooth Doncaster winner. Gets good ground again today and is worth chancing he can progress again.
Rock On Rocco, (1345 Kempton), 4/1: not much to get excited about in this moderate contest however Rock On Rocco looked pretty promising when concluding his novice hurdling campaign with a smooth win at Huntingdon. Should make a reasonable chaser in time, and could have too much class for these opponents provides fit enough on seasonal debut.
Jaboticaba, (1457 Kempton), 5/1: interesting handicapping here with favourite Darling Maltaix left on the same mark for romping home in an uncompetitive 3 runner race. Jaboticaba also romped home in a poor 4 runner race in which the fav unseated early but has an 8lb rise. Instinct would suggest the fav, but the handicappers are not dumb, they do this for a living, and they obvious see more signs of improvement in Jabo hence the ratings hike. We’re inclined to agree and Alan King’s runner looks decent value to justify the raters’ assessment.
Ballyandy, (1510 Ffos Las), 17/2: a pretty strong handicap hurdle for this stage of the season. Plenty of these could turn out to be decent, but we’ll side with the proven class in top weight Ballyandy. A former Festival winner he was consistently good last year culminating in an 8th placing in the Champion Hurdle. He has to carry with weight that comes with those credentials but he has often been at his best giving weight away to lesser horses and the Twiston-Davies horses rarely lack fitness in the early stage of the season. He looks a decent price.
