The Champions League continues Wednesday, with Ajax hosting the 2019 champions Liverpool.
The Reds have a good record against the Dutch side, having not lost in their last 13 matches, winning eight. However, they come into the game under something of a cloud after a series injury to defensive lynchpin Virgil van Dijk on the weekend. That said, they still look very dangerous going forward, which could result in a high scoring match.
Ajax have a poor record at home in the Champions League, winning just one of their previous seven, so we’re reluctant to take the near 4/1 on them winning tonight. But we do think they will have chances.
Dusan Tadic is a talented player who has scored six times in his 18 Champions League appearances. He loves to shoot, and we think he will get opportunities to do so. With this in mind, we’ll take the 15/8 on offer that he scores.
The second game sees Manchester City host Porto at the Etihad Stadium, looking to finally capture the main trophy that the club’s owners are seeking.
City have a few injury problems, including midfield maestro Kevin de Bruyne. This may reduce City’s offensive threat, but we can’t side with Porto to win this one given the Portuguese team has yet to win in England after 21 attempts.
In de Bruyne’s absence we think City may lean on Riyad Mahrez for creativity, and will take a 13/8 punt that he scores tonight.
