The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Sametegal, (1322 Aintree), 1pt win, 7/2:
One of the younger qualifiers for this veterans’ chase, and unlike many of these has still been mixing it at the top level coming third in a big handicap chase at Kempton when last seen. He has a form history on reappearance of 221122, so doesn’t look a hard horse to get ready and his stable simply couldn’t be in any better form.
Itchy Feet, (1357 Aintree), 3/1: was a leading novice last year til coming unstuck when jumping poorly at the Festival. We’ve already seen a few big weights landing big chases in the last few days and the fella is the one in this field with pretentions to graduate to the top level. He can take a first step by landing this historic prize.
Jammy George, (1432 Aintree), 5/1: the stable had a big winner at Cheltenham in Friday and this one has always been quietly well regarded. Didn’t quite make the grade in his first season chasing last year but he wasn’t without his problems. Is reportedly in much better shape now and retains novice status despite the benefit of plenty of experience and could be very well handicapped.
Monte Cristo, (1542 Cheltenham), 7/1: was one of his owners’ many expensive juvenile imports last season but wasn’t ready for the big time with two low level runs. Could still be anything and you have to respect the track record of connections. This could be a good place to restart, he would have a great rating if able to justify the price tag, and the stable is in permanently good form.
