Two big through-the-night events coming up. We’ll look more at the nerve-shredder that is the US elections tomorrow, but tonight’s get up at 4am practice is for the race that stops the nation, the Melbourne Cup.
Recently this has been successfully plundered by the visitors, particularly the Irish, and they arrive in massive numbers this year.
That said we like the look of some of those returning from last year, with one English and one home contender catching the eye.
We put no-one off the chances of Prince Of Arran, placed in this the last two years going very close last year and in good form based on his recent efforts. He should place again.
However, we think this will be a year for a home defence in the form of Surprise Baby. This 6yo arrived in form but relatively inexperienced last year, and having been held up in last, made up a ton of ground for a fast finishing and close 5th.
He looks to have been prepped especially for this, with suitably quiet warm up runs. A good jockey booking and an excellent draw add to the confidence and he should run a huge race
Surprise Baby, Melbourne Cup, 2pts win, 8/1
