This week marks the midpoint of the Champions League group stage, with both Liverpool and Manchester City looking for their third straight wins, largely confirming their places in the knockout phase.
City look to have the easier job tonight, hosting Olympiakos at the Etihad. The English side should really win tonight. Only two teams, Barcelona and Porto, have conceded more away goals in England than Olympiakos, and they played a lot more games. The Greek side have not progressed past the group stages in this competition since 2014.
Striker Gabriel Jesus could be fit to play tonight, but we’ll side with Raheem Sterling to score tonight.
Liverpool travel to Italy to take on Atalanta in what could be a tricky game. The Reds sit on top of their group, but haven’t look convincing in their two matches. They have defensive issues, despite keeping two clean sheets, and will be playing their sixth game in 18 days.
Atalanta reached the quarterfinals last year and have picked up four points from the opening two games. They have failed to score in only one of their past 19 games in European competitions, and we think this firepower may be too much for Liverpool’s rejigged defence.
Liverpool are still a good side, so we’ll avoid betting on the result. Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata has netted four times in five Champions League starts, and we’ll take him to net tonight.
