NAP OF THE DAY: Joke Dancer, (1425 Wetherby), 1pt win, 4/1:
Useful on his day, the key is predicting when that will be. The Sue Smith yard are showing signs of hitting their usual mid-winter peak of form and the step back to a bare 2m should suit this fella. There was plenty to like about his run in what may transpire to be a good quality race here last time, and he looks a decent bet to hit form.
Devour, (1145 Wetherby), 5/1: came good on his handicap debut here when staying on well to defy a mark of 108. Gets a 7lb hike for that and this looks a stronger field, but the odds more than reflect that, he has scope to improve, and we know the course and distance suit him well.
Imperial Icon, (1310 Hereford), 4/1: we backed this youngster on handicap debut at Carlisle last time but he gave himself no chance by running far too freely on heavy ground. Although this is a longer trip there should be more pace on here on the faster surface and maybe he can learn enough from that last run. He is on a gift of a rating if jockey Bass can just get him to relax.
Princess Midnight , (1340 Hereford), 6/4: made a nice comeback over fences at Wincanton and then built on that by winning bravely here last time. She is only up 4lbs for that and remains on a basement rating. That said, this is a weak field and she should be up to repeating the win under the genius that is Robbie Power.
