The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Present Chief, (1415 Musselburgh), 1pt win, 5/2:
Jonjo O’Neill’s in form staying handicapper ran a great race last time at Newbury when looked possible winner two out only to fade late on for a close fourth. This is easier opposition and an easier track and that should combine for a very winnable opportunity.
Lady Rocco, (1215 Musselburgh), 11/4: a low grade handicap for conditional riders and an interesting Irish raider. The handicaps are not well aligned at this grade and this mare is asked to carry 9lbs more than domestically, but that may not be adjustment enough. Add in that Kevin Brogan is very good for his 3lb claim and she looks worth a punt.
Kaproyale, (1435 Plumpton), 3/1: had shown nothing in maidens but showed he may have a winning handicap mark when a staying in third on his debut in this grade at Hereford. Was never really in the race that day, but over this longer trip and building off that run he should go a lot closer today. The booking of a confident Aidan Coleman is only ever a plus.
Smugglers Blues, (1515 Plumpton), 11/2: plenty of laps of Plumpton here for this staying event. Smugglers Blues may have had an impossible job against the flying Cyclop at Chepstow last time, but travelled sweetly for a long way and although well beaten in the end it showed he can win off this mark when not facing such a well-in rival. None of those today carry the same threat and he should go really well.
