Tuesday Yankee: Yule be lucky….

The last Yankee until the thrills of the post-Christmas festivals. Lots to look forward to, in the meantime stay safe and have as merry a Christmas as circumstances allow…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Zhiguli, (1335 Huntingdon), 1pt win, 13/2:

Ran with great promise in a maiden at Newbury before making his handicap debut on heavy ground at Lingfield.  Ran in snatches on that surface and was still a decent third.  This is a more raceable surface, and there could be bags of improvement if he races more kindly.

Thomas Shelby, (1305 Huntingdon), 7/1: was very impressive when demolishing the opposition on soft ground at Bangor.  An 8lb rise should have been within scope but he bombed at Warwick where good ground would not have helped at a track where jumping rhythm is critical.  Gets a softer surface again here and can regain form on this more conventional track.

Tazka, (1405 Huntingdon ), 4/1:  left a late Southwell unseat well behind when a costly winner last time at Fontwell.  A 6lb rise is more than offset by the useful claim of Niall Houlihan, and with the Moore stable in excellent form, this mare can follow up that recent success.

Miss Austen, (1435 Huntingdon), 7/2:   Few trainers plot their horses to much better effect than Hughie Morrison.  He has run this mare sparingly and she improved dramatically for a 10 month break after debut when thrashing today’s favourite at Ludlow.  So 10 further months off is more likely through design than any issue.  Rainyday Woman may have improved for the switch to Nicholls, but Miss Austen had lots in hand when they last met.
