The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Gabby’s Cross, (1500 Leopardstown), 1pt win, 7/2:
We were impressed by this fella’s Punchestown win last time. That looked a strong event and he battled hard to beat a potentially well handicapped pair on the run-in. An increase of just 6lbs reflects the closeness of that finish but not the potential of those involved. He can reap a first dividend on the rater’s generosity by taking this event for the de Bromhead team.
Memory Tree, (1205 Leopardstown), 5/1: Moratorium looks interesting off a low handicap debut mark whilst Askann will enjoy the stamina test. But both may struggle to hold de Bromhead’s Memory Tree. He was having a first run for the yard when a close third under an amateur pilot last time. If his top stable can find any improvement on that then he should be a big factor here.
My Sister Sarah, (1315 Leopardstown), 15/2: hot favourite Concertista is a genuine top class prospect and probably capable of ranking higher than her mark of 150, but she has the maximum penalty here and some decent opponents on a class-levelling quagmire. Stable companion My Sister Sarah receives 8lbs and her disappointing-at-the-time form from earlier this year looks very much better in hindsight. She may be worth a chance at a fair price.
Saint Roi, (1425 Leopardstown ), 7/4: having picked this one for the Champion Hurdle we are not going to desert him here. With a cleaner run he would likely have beaten Abacadabras last time and although there won’t be much in it, he should come out on top this time especially with a gruelling test in prospect. Those looking for a price could look at Petit Mouchoir, but it will be a body blow for a Irish hopes of Cheltenham success if he puts away the market leaders here.
