The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Dalton Highway, (1440 Punchestown), 1pt win, 7/2:
A super race featuring three compelling contenders. The back to form Debuchet was unlucky here last time, but that form has taken a couple of recent knocks. Damalisque made a fine comeback and has to have a big chance, but we prefer Dalton Highway. He did us a big favour this time last year when a cosy winner at Leopardstown. This is his first hurdle run since but he has a successful flat campaign suggesting he can build further on that winning form. Jack Kennedy is a good jockey booking and it would be no surprise to this guy in some big handicaps come the spring festivals.
Aheadfullofdreams, (1216 Warwick), 5/2: lightly raced and came into this season on a very low mark and was unfortunate to lose his comeback race in the stewards room. Up 4lbs for that, but should cope, and heavy ground should emphasise fitness, and no-one gets them as fit as the Skeltons.
Envol Pierji, (1305 Punchestown), 3/1: showed the promise of his hurdles form for the first time over fences when running on into a closing third in a ladies race at Fairyhouse. Gets Mark Walsh in the saddle today and some significant weight concessions from his main rivals.
Marino Marvel, (1510 Punchestown ), 11/4: any decent form is rare in this low grade handicap, so although Marino Marvel’s respectable second place here last time came from out of the blue, backing a repeat effort looks far more likely than any of his rivals finding a similar sudden burst of improvement.
