The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Salty Boy, (1425 Plumpton), 1pt win, 7/2:
Imported from Ireland and has looked to be on a winnable mark based on three solid runs since arrival. Was especially good last time when staying on for a close third in the competitive Tommy Whittle chase at Haydock. Steps down a grade for this Sussex National and should have too much for his more modest opponents.
Oliver’s Island, (1257 Catterick), 11/4: Won nicely last week and escapes any penalty. The front two there were nearly 40l clear of the rest there and he can expect a significant hike when reassessed so should be very well in here.
Nick Vedder, (1445 Southwell), 2/1: mercurial sprinter who was a regular for this blog a few seasons ago before his form tailed off. In much shallower waters now and really caught the eye when tenderly handled here last time. Not wholly trustworthy to run the same race twice, but two stone below his best now and that must give home scope to win a few of that recent promise is realised.
Shattered Love, (1450 Fairyhouse), 5/2: a good quality mares chase. Favourite Salsaretta is hard to assess having won all her completed chases easily. In the handicapper’s view she is 4lbs inferior to Shattered Love but is asked to give that rival 5lbs. Mullins is flying, Elliott’s form is more subdued, but if that 9lb weight pull is ever going to tell them it’s on this soft ground that Shattered Love adores and she can prove the ratings right by taking this.
