NAP OF THE DAY: Hunters Call, (1530 Kempton), 1pt win, 12/1:
A wide open race and One True King is a clearly progress novice with a big chance. But old Hunters Call has relatively low mileage and the conditions of this race look ideal for him. Travels with real class and top jockey Aidan Coleman has the challenge of anchoring him under cover and producing him late. Looks a fair price if the race stays compact enough for long enough to give him the chance to smuggle through late on.
My Way, (1217 Chepstow), 3/1: has been threatening to pick up a prize this season, most noticeably when we’ll backed for the Badger Beer, but has clearly failed to see out the 3 miles. This drop back on this surface should suit, he gets a feather weight and Bryony Frost steers.
Farrants Way, (1250 Chepstow), 10/3: Typically very lightly raced for the Venetia Williams yard, untypically stays hurdling which is a hint in itself that last month’s comeback third at Sandown is seen as a precursor to a win. Stayed on well there and can reverse the form with the race-fit Storm Arising with the benefit of that run. Should enjoy conditions and looks to have a great chance.
Dominateur, (1510 Chepstow), 12/1: the annual Welsh bog slog is likely to be another war of attrition. Favourite Secret Reprieve has a big chance but is priced accordingly. We love old Big River who could go well if he chooses to, but we’ll go with the relatively more youthful Dominateur. Twice a winner at this track as a novice including on this racecard last year on similar ground, he is the right age and weight and could go well back here. Has to put a Uttoxeter flop behind him, but that place doesn’t suit all, and his comeback last of three was actually pretty fair.
