Tuesday Yankee: French to fry rivals…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  French Paradoxe, (1435 Wetherby), 1pt win, 7/2:

A very interesting runner for small stable after a good win at Newbury last time where he held off a powerful Nicholls favourite who has been an easy winner since.  A mark of 122 looks very workable and he held an entry in the very competitive Lanzarote hurdle last weekend but comes to shallower waters here and can prevail.

Brosna Rocco, (1500 Fairyhouse), 7/4:  a pretty short price admittedly for a large field handicap but this mare ultimately ran out an easy winner at Tramore on handicap debut.  A 7lb rise is pretty generous in low grade Irish handicapping terms where success is often followed by a double figure hike, and looks especially so given that some of the beaten horses have won and run well since.  Should be a banker.

Upourdat, (1530 Fairyhouse), 5/1: another who typically left maiden form miles behind once in handicaps when a good closing fourth on handicap debut at Navan.  Can be ridden with a bit more confidence after that effort, is ok the same mark and gets the benefit of a 7lb claim.  Looks very dangerous.

Rovaniemi, (1630 Newcastle), 3/1:  has run promisingly without quite delivering.  Tends to run a bit freely and not get home so this drop in trip is a pretty interesting move.  If the faster pace helps him settle better, then this could be set up for some classic Spencer straight course hold-up magic.
