Friday Yankee: Comet set to blaze a trail…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Primo’s Comet, (1610 Newcastle), 1pt win, 5/1:

Has previous course winning form and importantly has dropped the 2lbs required to squeeze back into class 5.  Has a 4 from 8 strike rate at this level (1 from 35 at higher levels).  Ran pretty well here last time in a better race and can win again now back in shallower waters.

Manjaam, (1240 Newcastle), 9/2:  won here last month on his only previous course run, wearing down Jen’s Fella despite a troubled run.  At identical weights today he should confirm the win despite what the betting says.  We know to our cost that Hermocrates is hard to win with and Busy Street’s jumpers bumper win probably said more about the paucity if opposition than anything more positive.

Imperial Command, (1440 Newcastle), 5/2:  a strong race featuring a number of in form rivals.  Imperial Command’s win here last month was impressive and came over another strong field.  Looks a big improver for his in form yard and has been let off fairly lightly for that good win.

Send In The Clouds, (1800 Southwell), 5/1:  extremely lightly raced for a 4yo and made his handicap debut at Wolves recently.  Ran on well from off the pace over 7f there which doesn’t immediately suggest this step back in trip will help, but is bred to really enjoy this surface and is likely to get a more prominent ride form his wily veteran jockey.
