Premier League: Emile’s the man…

The Premier League weekend continues tonight, with Arsenal taking on Newcastle at the Emirates.

The two sides met last weekend in the FA Cup, with Arsenal winning after extra time. This continued the run of supremacy for the North London club, with the Gunners having won 14 of their last 15 Premier League matches against Newcastle.

Newcastle are on a run of eight games without a win, and a struggling to score goals – they have only scored once in their past six fixtures. Arsenal, by contrast, have earned 10 points out of a possible 12 since Christmas. This all points to a home win, likely to nil. But that’s priced at just above even money, hardly earth shattering!

Instead, we’re going to take a look at the man of the match market. An Arsenal victory suggests the man of the match will be wearing red and white. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the favourite, but he has hit something of a dry spell in terms of goals. Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are next in the betting, but neither are certain to start, so we’ll turn to Emile Smith-Rowe.

The 20-year-old has been central to the Gunners’ resurgence, starting four consecutive league games and assisting in the scoring of two goals, as well as scoring in the FA Cup win over Newcastle. As Mesut Ozil looks set to leave the Emirates, maybe it’s time to hail the new play maker.

Recommendations:

Arsenal/Newcastle: Smith-Rowe to be named man of the match, 1 pt, at 8/1, William Hill
