Tuesday Yankee: Alice in wonderland?

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Alice O’Byrne, (1350 Down Royal), 1pt win, 3/1:

Made an excellent handicap debut when narrowly losing out in a prolonged duel with Moonlight Glory.  With adjustments to the riders’ claims, Alice gets a 7lb pull, enough in of itself to reverse the form let alone the improvement that can be expected as she gains experience.

Itsalonglongroad, (1450 Down Royal), 3/1: two chase wins in three starts marks him out as prolific in the context of these rivals.  Still gets in on a workable mark and the form of his win at Tramore last time was held up by promising efforts from the next two home at Punchestown subsequently.  Looks a worthy market leader.

Peterstown, (1520 Down Royal), 7/1:  mare has had nine chasing runs and most have been like her last poor effort at Cork. The one glorious exception was her run prior to that in her only appearance at this idiosyncratic track when chasing home a subsequent winner. That could easily have been a fluke or it could signal a course specialism, The bar is not raised that high by her opponents, so if she does take kindly to Down Royal then she is a value price.

Envol Pierji, (1550 Down Royal), 4/1:  has had a typically “quiet” preparation for his high profile owner, and after showing nothing on handicap debut was backed to favourite to win the Ladies National last time.  Was given way too much to do there from off the pace, but is likely to get a steep rise here from the owner’s number one jockey.  Can recover leant losses.
