The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Escaria Ten, (1515 Naas), 1pt win, 3/1:
One of our favourite young chasers in Ireland with bags of potential. This is a big step up in class, with Pencilfuloflead setting a high standard, but Escaria is on the rapid rise and it just be enough to see him land this on route to Cheltenham.
Beacon Edge, (1315 Naas), 9/4: Willie Mullins’ hurdler/chaser Bachasson is best in at the weights, but he is very much the known quantity. We have always liked Beacon Edge and he arguably has more headroom in his rating coming here off a lifetime best in finishing a close third to Honeysuckle. He may just improve enough to pip the favourite.
Lean Araig, (1445 Naas), 11/2: hard to find a well handicapped 12yo but this fella remains a little unexposed having missed a lot of racing through injury. Has looked good as a veteran novice chaser this season and was the only one to run multiple winner Enjoy D’Allen close last time. Through that horse he has a fine chance against fellow favourite Notice To Close at these weights.
Aloneamongmillions, (1615 Naas), 13/2: we were big on Billaway when he beat most of these last time. But that was a shorter trip and whilst he will be equally good over this distance, some of those he beat can be expected to improve. At the odds it may worth risking point-to-point phenomenon Aloneamongmilions to close that gap to the hot favourite with this much stiffer stamina test. Keep an eye on Cheltenham winner It Came To Pass, who is decent value to defend in March, he usually only peaks on the day but will hopefully show signs of nearing the boil.
