NAP OF THE DAY: Foxey, (1445 Wetherby), 1pt win, 5/1:
A nicely competitive little event for a Tuesday afternoon. Dubai Days could still have some headroom now he is ridden from off the pace, but the lightly raced pair of En Couleur and Foxey make most appeal. Both ran with some credit on handicap debuts, but Foxey was the one who caught the eye the most when undone by an Ayr quagmire and running out of steam. A better surface here and the superb Brian Hughes on board should set up a winning opportunity.
Broadclyst, (1505 Taunton), 5/1: not a race where many have compelling credentials. Most of these could struggle with this surface, but Broadclyst’s lifetime best came here two runs ago off this mark on this ground. Its not a lifetime best that would worry too many, but it could be enough to see off this lot.
Follow That, (1540 Taunton), 3/1: a truly awful race but that helps this mare to stand out. Her promising trainer doesn’t have too many off his low a rating, but she threatened to reward patience when running on well for second here on handicap debut over a shorter trip. Expecting her to follow up that effort is a habitual hazard of this low grade fare, but she is unexposed enough to suggest she may just improve, and she is in capable hands under Aidan Coleman.
Be Proud, (1940 Newcastle), 9/2: blog regular and pretty much a cast iron each way bet. Often finds enough trouble to deny him the victory and again had an impeded run when a close third behind today’s rivals Kind Review and North Wind here last time. Hard to see why is a bigger price than that pair given the weight pull with the winner and the prospect of a potentially clearer run.
