Saturday Yankee: Back to Black…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Black Corton, (1535 Kempton), 1pt win, 9/1:

We backed Black Corton for this race last year and he went pretty close.  He hasn’t quite shown the same form this year but he finally returns to his favourite track.  Should make a bold bid under top weight and regular pilot Bryony Frost.

Gunsight Ridge, (1315 Kempton), 7/2:   Promising novice whose handicap debut looks better with time.  He chased home Gowel Road at Newbury and that horse has won again since.  This step up in trip looks ideal and he is the coming force in this race and looks to have. A big chance if he runs to that Newbury form.

Salty Boy, (1515 Newcastle), 9/2:  Last Sunday, trainer David Bridgewater had a terrible weekend losing his best horse.  This weekend can be kinder as this Irish import has looked for all the world like a marathon chaser in the making.  Aintree may be further, but it’s a toss-up between this race and the Midlands National for the most gruelling of the season.  He gets in on a feather weight and looks great value to provides some crumbs of comfort for the yard.

Goulaine Jessie, (1635 Fairyhouse), 7/2: consistent mare who likes to mix chasing and hurdles.  Her best recent runs have all come in Fairyhouse hurdle events, so today’s conditions augur well.  She is one of a just a few guaranteed to stay this trip in the mud and she can register her annual course win.
