NAP OF THE DAY: Dark Shot, (1345 Epsom), 1pt win, 4/1:
Only two of these have extensive form here but whether old boy Duke Of Firenze can do it again is doubtful. Dark Shot however have a score to settle having missed out narrowly repeatedly here. With Hollie Doyle steering he can finally get justice.
Good Birthday, (1450 Epsom), 7/1: course winner Sky Defender will run much better than his odds suggest. However this could be the moment to catch Good Birthday. A winner first time out two years ago and a good third in reappearance last year, his mark has slipped significantly despite an 8th in the Cambridgeshire suggesting he is far from a lost cause. With just 8st 3lbs and fresh for his in form yard, he looks decent value.
Tanglewood Tales, (1500 Yarmouth) 3/1: a number of these have untapped potential that could come to fruition with a years maturity and some added distance, but Tanglewood Takes looks sure to progress. He has already shown his rating is favourable with a decent nursery third, but with his stable in great form, and with this trip looking sure to suit a son of Nathaniel.
Group One Power, (1555 Epsom), 11/4: Soto Sizzler provides the course specialist angle, but even that may not be enough against the obvious promise of Valyrian Steel and Group One Power. The latter’s fourth at Royal Ascot was the best either horse achieved last year and with the Balding yard going well that is enough for him to get the nod.
