The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Acanella, (1445 Leopardstown), 1pt win, 5/1:
A tricky fillies race but we were impressed by a recent maiden race here and the 1-2 from that have definite chances of making their Mark in this much higher grade. Climate ran well there but Acanella oozed class in cruising past for a tidy win and looks the sort to progress into something special.
Taipan, (1515 Leopardstown), 5/1: couldn’t lay a glove on Bolshoi Ballet on recent reappearance and that horse is deservedly a short price here. That though was only Taipan’s second lifetime run, and he didn’t have the cleanest of runs through behind a horse who dictated some quick-slow fractions. There was a lot to like about Taipan’s finishing effort, and with that experience and hopefully a more even paced race, he could make a surprise reversal in form.
Lethal Power, (1615 Leopardstown), 20/1: so a return to some form when a good third here on reappearance and stable debut may be a flash in the pan. However, if it signals a return to something near his past ability then this horse looks pretty well in. Nicely drawn and a chance to prove one of our dusty old theories that a horse from a small yard will have had less chance to be cherry ripe first time out and can therefore improve a lot for the run.
Sassified, (1645 Leopardstown), 3/1: Has run well in two runs this season and is drawn well enough to go close again. Slightly more luck last time would have seen him win and he should reverse the short heat margin with Macadam’s Rock. He may have more to fear from Los Andes, but this is a gilt edged chance to bag a win before the less exposed horses emerge.
