Saturday Yankee: Oz can be Newbury wizard…

The Daily Yankee

NAP OF THE DAY:  Oz Legend, (1500 Newbury), 1pt win, 10/1:

Plenty from top yards in this but they all have plenty of weight.  Hugo Palmer’s colt beat a bunch of rivals from top yards when winning his 2yo maiden and ran with promise on reappearance at Windsor.  Should come on for that run, gets bundles of weight here and may be able to shock a few big names.

John Leeper, (1405 Newmarket), 6/4:  we don’t like to pick at this price point too often, but this guy is too good to miss.  Arguably the best bred horse in training by the mighty Frankel out of star Oaks winner Snow Fair, and has shown real promise in two runs especially when bolting up at Newcastle last time.  Will surely be swimming in Group 1 waters in time and can take a big step in that direction here.

Ametist, (1550 Newmarket), 5/4:   Given a typically patient approach from trainer Haggas and although he didn’t beat much at Wetherby last time the style of the win was very taking.  A fine looking horse the handicap can only give him a rating of 87 on what we have seen but looks into have tons in the tank and should win this without breaking sweat.

Kenzai Warrior,  (1645 Newbury), 20/1:   Opened last season with 9th in the 2000 Guineas after which nothing went right at Group level and then when a non-stayer over 10f.  A fresh start this season, a drop in the weights, cheekpieces and a drop in trip could be a potent combination and this might be a good time to catch him against mostly exposed rivals.
