The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Gin Palace, (1530 Newbury), 1pt win, 2/1:
He won twice in June last year including at this track and is now on a very similar mark. Has run with increasing credit in some decent contests this year and looks to be coming to the boil just as he did last season.
Tiki Fire, (1630 Nottingham), 8/1: Bath and Brighton form for the two market leaders may have been a little overrated. We prefer the course effort of Tiki Fire who although a well held 5th in that event, didn’t get the rub of the green and looked capable of better. He looks a fair price in a weak enough race.
Ventura Express, (1830 Haydock), 6/4: has progressed rapidly for his new stable this season. Four runs at Pontefract have seen one bomb out on soft but a second and two wins on a firmer surface including a romp just a few days ago. Sure to go up a lot more than the 5lb penalty he has to carry, and whilst Haydock is very much not Pontefract, his improvement hasn’t looked venue specific and he should follow up here.
Precision Storm, (2000 Haydock), 5/2: a bit of an enigma having improved massively on the all weather. The handicapper took the view that was surface-based by leaving him 20lbs lower on turf and his run at Bath both proved that right (he didn’t win) but also suggested it may still be generous (he lost very narrowly. Not one for the mortgage, but this is not that strong a race and he still has a generous rating to exploit.
