This evening sees the second semi-final of the European Championships, with England taking on Denmark at Wembley.
England don’t have a great record in semifinals – losing to Croatia in the World Cup in 2018, to the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League League in 2019, and further back to Germany in both Euro 1996 and the World Cup in 1990. Furthermore, they lost to Denmark at Wembley last year. So the omens aren’t good.
However, the England team put on their best performance of the tournament last time out, dismissing Ukraine 4-0, and the players look they are peaking at the right time. Confidence must be flowing through their veins, and they will have 60,000 fans at Wembley to support them.
It won’t be easy though. Denmark are defensively solid with one of the best goalkeepers in the tournament in Kasper Schmeichel. They have scored goals in the tournament but are likely sit back, waiting for England to come at them. This could result in low-scoring contest, with England also sticking to their defensive approach.
This could turn into a midfield battle with the defensive midfielders on both sides favourites to be booked. However, Mason Mount is one of the hardest workers in the England side yet he’s a tasty 13/2 to see yellow. We think this is a big price.
Additionally, while England may have a lot of the ball, they could find it difficult to create clear-cut chances. This could lead to players taking snap shots, something that Mount is very partial to. We’ll take a punt that the Chelsea midfielder has more than one shot on target, at 11/2.

Mount (England) to have over one shot on target, 1 pt, at 11/2, William Hill
