The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Obee Jo, (1830 York), 1pt win, 4/1:
This 5yo is in the form of his life which is more than can be said for the great majority of his opponents. Has struck up a good partnership with Ella McCain who is herself in flying form and well worth the 5lb claim. Has a good chance of adding to both their tallies.
Star Caliber, (1430 Ascot), 3/1: historic staying handicap that has become a bit part of this weekend’s feast and should lie between two sons of Golden Horn. Blow Your Horn looks much the best of the older contingent but the stone of weight for age given to youngster Star Caliber just looks too tempting and with him having plenty of scope to improve he looks the likeliest answer.
Jawwaal, (1610, Ascot), 3/1: 3yo Significantly has made all for two big wins here recently as has Caspian Prince. It could be a battle royal for the pace and that should suit hold up horses Mountain Peak and Jawwaal. Both have winning form here and Mountain Peak has a 7lb pull for a narrow defeat at his rival’s hands which should be enough. That said the style of Jawwaal’s wins at Donny the last twice suggested there is more to come especially off a strong pace as is assured here.
Global Spirit, (2000 York), 14/1: hot favourite Kettle Hill has to be respected for his top yard off a break but his last run was dismal and he looks short. Old blog favourites Firmament and Scottish Summit have chances but the market may have written off another old blog stalwart Global Spirit too soon. He has an excellent record at this track and his runner up effort in the competitive Carlisle Bell two starts ago was as good as ever. Ran a stinker last time but that wasn’t his track, and this is.
