The Daily Yankee
NAP OF THE DAY: Currency Exchange, (1540 Beverley), 1pt win, 6/1:
You will here plenty of tips based on class-dropping in US racing but it is rarely used as a form angle here. This 3yo should make us think again. The form of his 3rd in a class 4 Sandown 10f event is excellent, but two defeats since have been in class 3 over 12f then 8f. Now drops all the way down to class 5, comes back to 10f, and has an outstanding chance.
Pettochside, (1350 Sandown), 10/1: 12yo veteran but still capable of success as he showed when winning by a mile on soft ground at Bath in May. Has mostly disappointed since hence the lower rating now, but his best subsequent run was when a closing 4th at this track. If there is any spark left then this course, on soft, with Sadie Osborne’s valuable claim is exactly the combination that can reignite the old engine.
Show Yourself, (1510 Beverley), 4/1: was a 3yo filly on a roll here throughout the Summer. She looks a decent price here probably because she was well beaten here last time suggesting the bubble has burst. But that was a listed race, and although well behind she was still within touching distance of horses rated over 20lbs above her. She had no chance there but ran with credit and now back in the right grade she has a fair chance of picking up her previous winning thread.
Wallem, (1640 Sandown), 4/1: this is a hot little race but there is a lot to like about Wallem. He has shown promise every time he has hit the track, often on ground soft as today’s. He has won after a break and comes here having had most of this season off. Has obviously had issues and has been gelded for good measure, but the stable continues to bang in the winners and he is very interesting under Oisin Murphy.
